Before the false ceiling
- Decide the lighting layout room by room: general light, cove, profile lines, spotlights.
- Choose colour temperatures: warm for bedrooms and living, neutral for kitchen and study.
- Put cove and decorative lights on their own circuits so they can be controlled separately.
- Plan an accessible spot for LED drivers.
Switchboards
- Keep a neutral wire available in every switchboard, so smart modules can be added any time.
- Use deeper switch boxes where possible to leave space for modules.
- Place a switchboard near the bed for lights and fans.
- Mark heavy loads (geyser, AC, kitchen appliances) for heavy-load modules.
Wi-Fi
- Plan router placement so every room has a good signal.
- In larger homes and villas, plan for a mesh system or an extra access point.
Smart home basics worth adding before you move in
- Geyser on a schedule, so hot water is ready in the morning.
- A “Good night” scene that switches off everything with one tap or one Alexa command.
- Porch and balcony lights on a sunset timer.
- Gas and smoke sensors in the kitchen with phone alerts.
After you move in
Everything above can also be added later with retrofit modules, without rewiring. Planning early simply makes it neater and cheaper. KS Enterprises does free site visits across Hyderabad and Secunderabad to help you plan.
Quick answers
When should I plan home automation in a new flat?
+
Ideally before the false ceiling and switchboards are finished, so circuits and neutral wires are ready. It can still be added later with retrofit modules.
